2016 Goal Review
I put together my 2016 goal list when I opened DividendStacker back in June. These last 6 months have completely flown by with lots of life changes, good and bad, and now it is time to report on my goal progress.
2016 to date I have funded my Roth IRA and added paltry amounts to my brokerage account, but now it is time for the brokerage account to get all the attention.
GOAL: Brokerage Account Forward Dividends: $500 - FAILED
Projected income at time of goal: $210
Projected income at the end of 2016: $386
I am about one or two purchases away from hitting this goal, however earlier in December I mostly decided to hold off on making more purchases in my brokerage account. There are still some good deals out there, but the market overall feels like its run up too far. For now, I’m holding onto some cash and will continue to bolster my cash position for future purchases.
This account will be a big part of my 2017 goals that I will be developing in the next week or so. Stay tuned!
GOAL: Pay off truck loan - FAILED
Well, maybe this ended up being a more aggressive goal than I initially anticipated. I ended up moving houses and dumping a lot of money into fixing up my old place to rent out. The cash meant for this goal, went elsewhere.
While I’m sad I still have this debt hanging over my head, I’m still happy with my decisions regarding where the money went to.
With the website just up and running, I have a lot of work to do to get it looking and operating how I want, which will take some time.
GOAL: Get 20 new visitors to the site - PASSED
The dividend investing community is far stronger than I could have ever imagined. I had to take a couple month blog hiatus and still was able to 816 new visitors to the site. While many of these are potentially bots, I feel confident my goal was surpassed.
GOAL: Write 52 articles - FAILED
Whoops! So I’m starting to realize I may have let some of these goals slip a little bit, only posted 16 articles since June. Most being dividend increase announcements. I guess a 3 or so month break will do that to your productivity.
GOAL: Read two books – HALF-PASS
These two books had been in my closet since last year and I had been looking forward to reading them. It is tough to take time for reading while trying to get through my MBA program, but I tried my best to make time for it:
-The Essays of Warren Buffett: Lessons of Corporate America - READ
-Think and Grow Rich – HALF WAY THROUGH
In summary, disappointing to say the least when it came to some of my goals for the year. I am very much looking forward to figuring out my goals for 2017. I’ll have to continue to remind myself that while it is fun to dream big, it is even more fun to actually achieve the goals you set out to accomplish! May need to reign it in a little this year.
